About Instituto Marangoni

Istituto Marangoni is the international fashion school par excellence, with four Schools in the most prestigious venues of international fashion. In Milan, the capital of Made in Italy, in Florence, where fashion, art and tradition meet, in Paris, the home of haute couture, in London, where trends are born and in Shanghai, where fashion is the future, Istituto Marangoni is able to offer different visions of the contemporary fashion system to its students. Istituto Marangoni is a school where the passion for fashion unites cultures, ideas and people from all over the world. Entering Istituto Marangoni means being part of a very special community, where fashion is the common denominator in all its most cosmopolitan aspects. The four sites of Istituto Marangoni are truly one of the most international student contexts in the world, with more than 4,000 students from 106 countries, each with infinite interests, styles, and knowledge. Attending this school is an experience of being immersed in fashion, learning and being enriched through contact with the most varied and interesting cultural realities. The new School of Art brings together, in one prestigious site, all the disciplines taught by Istituto Marangoni. The school is located in a historical building in via de’ Tornabuoni 17, in the core of the city, just a few steps away from Piazza S.Trinità and the museums of Gucci and Ferragamo. In addition to a range of long and short courses in fashion and design, the new Firenze school provides an intense programme of studies dedicated to art and encompassing History of Art, Art ‘Management’ and Visual Multimedia Art. The Florentine school is on the one hand characterised by the support of professors who are both professionals and highly specialized technicians in the ‘art of making’, and on the other by collaboration with an important French institution in the field of art teaching, the renowned Atelier de Sèvres (for Art courses). This completes the school’s innovative and prestigious profile.

About Program

This one year postgraduate level Curatorial Management course provides advanced knowledge in curating, learning how to interpret both art and fashion and also connecting them with contemporary artistic events and themed exhibitions. Curatorial management juggles the relationship between theoretical thinking and visual creation.

Participants begin studying the multifaceted history of art, as well as luxury brands, with an in-depth knowledge of the history of museology, dress, cinema and photography, and the evolution of curatorial practices from early private collections to the birth of the most important museums and exhibitions.
They analyze the fundamental tools of curatorial work, looking at the day-to-day operations and research methodologies. They learn how to put together a theme and follow all parameters in the development of the project from its concept, the selection of products, space, location, layout, calendar, etc., as well as reflecting brand, individual client or company identity in the visual representation. Attention will be given to heritage exhibitions in art, textiles and fashion collections; exhibitions that become important company assets, adding value to the identity of many luxury brands today. As well as curatorial maintenance practices, cataloguing, artefact handling, museography, and luxury heritage management, participants also study communication, marketing and public relations for heritage projects. Budget management is key – with professional guidance in financial and administrative management where careful and often difficult decisions need to be made when considering the financial aspects of a curatorial project.
