The Department of Architecture and Design offers the following Bachelor Programs:
Architectural Technology Advanced Entry BSC (HONS)
If you are interested in the technical side of architecture, rather than the creative, then our fully accredited degree will develop your expertise in the technology, management and legal aspects of construction. The course covers the range of design problems that architectural technologists work on, including commercial, industrial, retail, leisure and residential projects and these may involve new-build, adaptation, restoration maintenance or interiors. You will be set a number of design projects throughout the course and may undertake these in groups or on an individual basis, to gain the knowledge and skills which enable you to find efficient and effective solutions to the design and construction of buildings.
Architecture (ARB/RIBA PART 1) BSC (HONS)
Our cutting-edge degree course provides you with an expansive grounding in design, theory, history and building technology, whilst embracing conservation, regeneration, climate change, equality and urban/rural regeneration. You will compare and contrast regional architecture and urban form with national and international exemplars within your project briefs, lectures and on our annual overseas field trip. This course was recently validated by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) with notable commendations for our enviable facilities, and our focus on student experience, studio culture, support and employability.
Art and Design (Foundation Entry) BA (HONS)
This is the perfect course if you wish to take a degree in art and design but are not sure which path to follow or you know which path to follow but want to improve your opportunity of gaining a good degree and realizing your full potential. If you wish to take a degree in art and design but do not possess the qualifications or experience required for year 1 entry, this foundation entry year will help you achieve your goal.
Interior Design BA (HONS)
UCLan’s BA (Hons) Interior Design degree will encourage and support you to find your own personal approach to interior design, whether on a large or small scale.
Working on live projects, you’ll design for a range of industries learning how professional interior design interacts with other areas as part of a project’s design team, which in turn helps you develop valuable project management and problem-solving skills. You’ll gain a full understanding of how interior design has developed over recent decades, and how your work can benefit. Ultimately, you’ll graduate with a perfect blend of practical skills, professionalism and creativity.
Animation BA (HONS)
Our award-winning Animation degree covers stop motion, 2D animation and 3D digital animation that will help you develop the practical skills and technical expertise you need to create your own film by the end of the course. You will be encouraged to express your own creativity and ideas and thanks to our close links with employers, there’s the chance to work on ‘live’ projects from industry so that you know your skills are relevant – taught by industry professionals who all currently work in their specialist areas will guide you to create a professional body of work that puts you in line with industry demand for which UCLan is one of only few institutions in the country to have a tailor-made program that suites you.
Games Design BA (HONS)
You will love this course if you want to design the games you play – from the start you will be designing and developing games from design and animation to digital modelling. BA (Hons) Games Design offers a dynamic and friendly creative environment where students are encouraged and inspired to play, learn and think creatively, to reach their potential for employment in the industry. Many of our graduates have paid work and lead roles in a variety of games design studios.
Graphic Design BA (HONS)
On this degree, you will develop your skills in Graphic Design through both digital and traditional print media. You will work on live projects with real deadlines, and our great links with industry mean that you could be working on placements with top agencies around the country. You will be taught in a friendly and competitive studio atmosphere, developing your problem solving and creative skills at the same time. We are also well known for our success in national and international student competitions.
Illustration BA (HONS)
The images we see and take for granted in day-to-day life from book covers to advertisements in newspapers etc are more often than not created by an illustrator. A career as an illustrator opens the door to a wide variety of careers in design, working for graphic, media and advertising agencies, as well as publishers and newspapers. If you have an enthusiasm for drawing and practical creativity of all kinds, our Illustration degree course will help you hone and develop your design skills via the communication of ideas with pictures, using the up-to-date digital and printing facilities available to you. Through our links with industry and relevant work placements, you’ll gain an in-depth understanding of the industry, so you’re well equipped to take your skills into the workplace.
Textile Design BA (HONS)
If you’re inspired by the work of textile artists like Orla Kiely and Michael Brennand-Wood, this course will help will you develop a design identity that’s just as unique, individual and commercial. We challenge our students to look at textile craft in new ways, experimenting with surfaces, form and function to create really exciting
