German 3 Years 

Learning a language opens a door to another culture. Our BA German allows you to combine studying the culture of German-speaking countries with gaining a near-fluent command of the German language. You will be able to choose from modules on German literature, film, history, philosophy and memory studies covering topics from the sixteenth century to the present day. Our graduates go on to careers in international organizations or businesses, in translation or teaching, and as researchers or journalists.

Our BA Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies with Foundation Year offers you the opportunity to focus on Spanish and Latin American Studies, including Brazil, and learn Spanish to an advanced level.

Our BA Language and/with History with Foundation Year combines the study of a modern language and its associated culture with a study of history. You will be taught by internationally renowned researchers, reflecting the latest trends in the study of history and cultural studies in modern languages. You will also have the opportunity to study a number of cross-cultural modules allowing you to explore specific themes across a variety of language-speaking areas.

 

French Studies with International Experience (BA) 4 Years

Our BA Language and/with English with Foundation Year combines studying a modern language (French, German, Italian, Japanese or Spanish) and its associated culture with English literature. You will gain a thorough grounding in different areas of English literature and engage imaginatively in the reading and analysis of literary texts from all periods, from the Anglo-Saxon to the present day, and develop a critical approach, so that you can put your own and others’ work in context. You will also have the opportunity to study a number of cross-cultural modules that will allow you to explore specific themes across a variety of language-speaking areas.

Language and/with Film/Media (French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish) (BA) 4 Years 

Our BA Language and/with Film/Media with Foundation Year combines studying a modern language and its associated culture with film and media studies. You will gain a thorough grounding in different areas of media study and an understanding of the ways in which the media relate to each other. You will develop a critical approach, so that you can put your own and others’ work in context. You will also have the opportunity to study a number of cross-cultural modules which will allow you to explore specific themes across a variety of language-speaking areas.

 

Language and/with Global Politics with Foundation Year (BA) 4 Years

Are you seeking to combine the study of a modern language with the study of politics to a high level? As well as gaining competence in a language, our BA Language and/with Global Politics with Foundation Year allows you to acquire advanced knowledge of a range of cultural topics, while also focusing on the nature of politics at the global level: international relations, political economy, and war and security studies. You will gain the skills necessary for political, sociological, historical and economic analysis in a learning environment that is supportive, radical and exciting. You will also have the chance to study a number of cross-cultural modules exploring specific themes across a variety of language-speaking areas.

 

Japanese Studies (BA) 3 Years

The program will hone the linguistic and intellectual skills you need for efficient negotiation in professional contexts. Language modules will enable you to reach a high level of proficiency in your target language, and acquire useful skills such as essay writing and delivering presentations, whilst management components will give you a good understanding of business and management and the environments in which they operate.

 

Modern Languages (French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish) with Foundation Year (BA) 

Our BA Modern Languages with Foundation Year allows you to raise your language skills to near-native standard in at least one of two languages studied, and learn related skills in translating, summary-writing, and written and oral presentations. At the same time, you can increase your cultural understanding through options in literature, film and society. Our students gain confidence in speaking and writing both the chosen languages for study and English.

 

Language and/with History of Art (BA) 3 Years 

You can study all kinds of artworks, from painting and sculpture to digital art and installations, and choose from a range of history of art modules, covering artists and art movements from the medieval period through to contemporary art. You will learn how to place artworks within their historical and cultural contexts and how to think more broadly about the role of images within society.

 

Language and/with Journalism (French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish) with Foundation Year (BA) 

Our BA Language and/with Journalism with Foundation Year combines the study of a modern language with development of journalistic skills relevant to a wide range of professional contexts. Not only will you become highly competent in your chosen language but you will also gain advanced knowledge of the cultures and societies of the countries in which the language is spoken.

Our BA Language and/with International Law with Foundation Year gives you the opportunity to combine the study of a modern foreign language with international law to a high level.
