Program Name
The market for postgraduate training in quantitative finance is evolving, with a change in the skillset that employers demand. Birkbeck’s MSc Mathematical Finance offers advanced training in quantitative skills used in modern financial institutions, including most notably valuation of securities, and measurement and management of portfolio risks, enabling you to seek employment in financial institutions, including regulator bodies.
Finance and Banking (MSC)
Specialist knowledge of finance is increasingly valued in commercial firms, government and academia. On our MSc Finance and Banking you will obtain excellent specialist training in finance and banking including basic portfolio theory, corporate finance and pricing theory applied to derivatives and government bond markets. You also learn the latest econometrics and numerical analysis skills important in the marketplace.
Financial Economics (MRES)
Birkbeck’s MRes Financial Economics will prepare you to undertake MPhil/PhD or professional research by giving you the theoretical knowledge and analytical techniques you need. The course will also give you a solid understanding of financial economics through modules taught at Master’s and MPhil level. You can also specialize in a particular area of personal or professional interest via a range of option modules.
Economics (MRES)
Birkbeck’s MRes Economics will prepare you to undertake MPhil/PhD or professional research by giving you the theoretical knowledge and analytical techniques you need. The course will give you a solid understanding of economics through modules taught at Master’s and MPhil level, including a dedicated research topics module in macroeconomics. You can also specialize in a particular area of personal or professional interest via a range of option modules. You will be assigned an academic MRes supervisor from the onset.
Statistics (Graduate Diploma)
Our Graduate Diploma in Statistics introduces you to the methods and practical implementation of statistical analysis, firmly grounded within the context of the underlying statistical theory and associated mathematics.
The Graduate Diploma in Statistics is particularly suitable for those who are looking to upskill quickly in the theoretical underpinnings and practical implementation of the kinds of statistical analyses that are often required in the practice of data science, but who are not yet ready to begin a Postgraduate Certificate or Master’s program.
