Biotechnology 2 Years
Biotechnology is a key enabling technology that offers strong innovation potential for the sustainable development of society. Research and development in biotechnology continue to improve processes and develop products that have profound impact on various sectors, such as healthcare and pharmaceuticals, agriculture, food and feed, environmental remediation, as well as production of chemicals and biofuels. Lund University is among the leading universities in the world for research and education in biotechnology. It is home to several world-renowned scientists who have strong links to the industry – from large multinational companies to small enterprises based on research developed within our departments.
Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Adaptation 2 years
The Master’s program in Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Adaptation has support from important national and international institutions, e.g. UN agencies, the Red Cross/ Red Crescent movement, NGOs and national authorities.
The program contributes to meeting the need for qualified professionals who can:
- contribute to resilient and sustainable societies through use of interdisciplinary concepts, methods and tools within disaster risk management and climate change adaptation
- apply skills in risk assessment, capacity assessment, preparedness and contingency planning, and risk based land use planning
- work with capacity development and project management for disaster risk management and climate change adaptation in local, national and international organizations or agencies
- utilize and contribute to research in this field
Embedded Electronics Engineering 2 Years
Embedded Electronics Engineering offers a wide perspective, where digital and analogue circuits and systems design is regarded as one unit in which different domains interact. The focus is on CMOS, where billions of devices are used to build a system on a single silicon die. Due to the extensive local industry, the program is closely linked with a variety of private companies, which ensures that our courses maintain high market relevance. In some cases, our students’ degree projects result in patent registrations and the opportunity to publish their work at international conferences and journals.
Energy-efficient and Environmental Building Design 2 Years
Buildings are responsible for a large share of our global energy use. Energy use is in fact the main determinant of a building’s global environmental footprint, considering its total life span. Lund University is internationally renowned for high-quality research related to energy-efficient buildings. Our expertise is centered on a whole-building perspective, which accounts for inhabitant needs as well as their comfort and health. The University’s advanced research, and its close ties to the building industry, create an excellent foundation for a strong Master’s program with a largely unique focus on buildings. Our students will graduate with advanced knowledge, skills and competencies within the area of energy-efficient and environmental building design in heating-dominated climates. Our goal is to train highly skilled professionals, who will significantly contribute to and influence the design, building or renovation of energy-efficient buildings and relating to renewable energy supply, taking into consideration the architecture and environment, the inhabitants’ behavior, needs, health and comfort, as well as the overall economy.
International Master of Science in Fire Safety Engineering 2 yearS

The International Master of Science in Fire Safety Engineering (IMFSE) is a two-year educational program in the Erasmus+ framework. This Master’s program is organized jointly by:
- Ghent University, Belgium (coordinator) English Proficiency: (IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 92)
- Lund University, Sweden English Proficiency: (IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 92)
- The University of Edinburgh, UK English Proficiency: (IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 92)
These three leading European research universities with complementary expertise in the field of fire safety engineering (FSE) join together with the main objective of creating an educational program that defines the required knowledge for a professional fire safety engineer, capable of developing a Performance Based Design (PBD). The three IMFSE universities are leading European institutions in the field of fire safety, providing both educational programs and high-level research. Ghent aims at general FSE, Lund is recognized in enclosure fire dynamics, CFD modelling, human behavior during fires and evacuation, and methods form risk assessment, and Edinburgh is the developer of the first curriculum in structural fire safety engineering.
Food Technology and Nutrition 2 years
This program is aimed at students who want to learn more about food and who want to work with innovative future foods, for instance as a part of the solution to major health issues such as malnutrition and obesity. The program covers the design and production of foods with health benefits. You will learn about subjects such as food chemistry, food processing, surface and colloid chemistry, microbiology, nutrition and food analysis. It is also possible for students to choose courses with a focus on environment and sustainability.
Logistics and Supply Chain Management 2 years
The program aims to provide students with the resources, mindset and skills necessary to build a successful career in global logistics and supply chain management. Our courses are designed to give students both solid theoretical knowledge and “hands-on” practical experience. They also host many feature guest lecturers from the industry and provide opportunities for students to visit and work with companies on assignments. The program takes a multidisciplinary approach to the design, planning and management of supply chains and logistics strategies, networks, processes and systems. Students learn both quantitative and qualitative problem-solving techniques that are applied through case studies, project work, business games and simulations.
Machine Learning, Systems and Control 2 years
The amount of available data in the world is exploding and advanced algorithms are used to extract information for use in different applications such as self-driving cars, optimized manufacturing, improved healthcare and more energy-efficient systems. The Master’s program in Machine Learning, Systems and Control prepares students for a flexible future-proof career within this general area where advanced algorithms are used to analyze large datasets in a wide range of applications combining methods of statistical analysis, mathematics, signal processing, image analysis and control theory. Demand for experts with such knowledge is growing, meaning an optimistic job market for graduates.
Nanoscience 2 years
On the nanometer scale, concepts and tools of physics are relevant also in chemistry and biology, and the different disciplines can interact closely. Nanoscience is therefore characterized by a large degree of interdisciplinary. The Master’s program in Nanoscience at Lund University has its scientific base in a physics description of nanoscale phenomena, but in addition to nanophysics you can, depending on your background and interests, choose to specialize in fields such as Nano electronics, materials science or biophysics. The program is part of Nano Lund, one of the world’s leading nanoscience research centres. You will interact with cutting-edge research throughout the program, starting in the first semester and building up to the Master’s project. Moreover, by taking advantage of the wealth of courses offered by Lund University, you will be able to explore the cross-disciplinary nature of nanoscience.
Pharmaceutical Technology: Discovery, Development and Production 2 years
The Master’s program in Pharmaceutical Technology will prepare you for an exciting career in pharmaceuticals, no matter if you aim for working in the pharmaceutical industry, regulatory authorities or for future PhD studies. The program is one of few with a broad approach that includes the entire pharmaceutical process; from discovery and identification of the active substance, to the development and production of the final drug, covering both biomolecules and small organic pharmaceutical molecules. The program aims to expose students to as authentic industrial development scenarios as possible, with strong emphasis on laboratory practice and project-based learning.
Photonics 2 years
Photonic technology, i.e. optical fibers and integrated photonic devices, is the backbone of global communication and information exchange, with transformational impact on today’s global society. Laser-based imaging, diagnostics and treatment methods revolutionize the life-science sector. The Photonics program at Lund University aims at educating talented students in the science and technology that lies behind the photonics revolution. You will obtain in-depth understanding of optics and laser technology as well as practical experience in optical design. You will experience working in modern optics and laser laboratories and gain detailed knowledge of important photonics applications (e.g. communication or medical optics). The education program is coupled to world-leading research activities in optics, lasers and their applications, performed at the Lund Laser Centre. You will obtain universal skills preparing you for excelling both in industrial or academic future careers.
Production and Materials Engineering 2 years
The program provides students with the knowledge, skills and vision required to solve engineering challenges in the manufacturing process, industrial automation, and product development, preparing them to take on leadership roles in globally competitive manufacturing industries. Our courses, seminars, workshops and projects are specifically designed for the student and combine solid theoretical knowledge with hands-on skills. After the program, the students will be able to analyze, evaluate and optimize complex manufacturing processes and production systems involved in the product realization.
Water Resources Engineering 2 years
Having access to clean water is the cornerstone for improving healthcare, increasing food supply, reducing child mortality rates and enhancing people’s overall quality of life. It has become crucial to develop technologies that can tackle water security challenges and meet the increasing demand. By applying integrated water resources management, surface water and groundwater can be used to cover this demand in a sustainable and eco-friendly way. These are the issues we explore with our students, as well as challenges such as wastewater treatment, storm water management, coastal hydraulics, and modelling of hydrological processes. The program is broad and covers the most important aspects of water resources engineering.
Wireless Communications 2 years
Can you imagine spending a week without your mobile phone? Or using your laptop without an internet connection? Over the last decades we have witnessed a revolutionary development of mobile wireless networks, giving us high-speed access to the internet wherever we are. But even with the latest 5G standard in place, a number of challenges will remain to be solved by advanced engineers. With the predicted large-scale expansions of internet-of-things (IoT) and massive machine-type communications (MTC / M2M), the number of connected devices will continue to increase. In addition, future applications such as the real-time wireless control of autonomous vehicles (intelligent transportation / traffic safety) or collaborating machines (Industry 4.0) will lead to entirely new requirements in terms of reliability and on-time delivery of information. Sustainable smart cities and the digitalization of society heavily rely on connected systems, leading to a broad range of job opportunities for our graduates.

About Program
The world is rapidly changing, thus offering new challenges for architecture. These challenges concern everything from densification of cities and sustainability to new technologies and how they affect the way we design and build. Lund University, located in the dynamic Copenhagen–Malmö region, is well known for its competence and knowledge, and offers superb resources for studying these matters in a broader context. The program combines best practice with advanced research, thus educating students to become highly skilled professionals who are competitive at an international level. Teaching contains both theoretical and hands-on projects aiming to find future-focused solutions to real-world issues. The program features international collaboration as well as locally active professionals. The process of working/learning consists of a mixture of workshops, critiques, tutorials with invited guests (both international and local) and longer projects that will be exhibited to a public audience.
The objectives of the Master’s program in Architecture are:
- to offer a broad education in architecture with possible specialization within two main fields (see below)
