This course builds on the training and educational programs offered by the Institution of Fire Engineers and is a very hands-on course – you’ll work with the training team at Lancashire Fire and Rescue HQ in your first year, and get the chance to work with fire safety engineering companies, all with the aim of boosting your employability when you graduate.
Fire Engineering MENG 4 years
Fire and fire safety are key issues in the Energy Industries – this new programme was developed with the Energy Institute to meet the academic skills requirement of Chartered Engineers. It places an emphasis on the pure engineering aspects of fire safety, applying chemistry, physics, mathematics, materials and computational engineering to help prevent deaths, injuries and financial losses that run to billions of pounds a year. Because the application of fire engineering in the real world is multi-disciplinary, so is this course – you’ll carry out project work, liaising between fire engineers and other members of the design and management teams.
Fire Safety (Engineering) (TOP-UP) BSC (HONS) 1 year
If you’re an engineer qualified to Higher National or Foundation Degree level and are seeking to develop expertise in the application of scientific, engineering and technological principles and tools to resolve design problems in fire and fire safety applications, then this top-up course is for you. The design and safety of buildings for industrial and commercial use is becoming more complex due to the ever increasing awareness of health and safety needs in the working environment, so the ability to solve the problems of fire prevention and control is ever increasing. Fire Safety Engineering is ideal if you are aiming for a senior role after graduation in safety design or want to become a fire safety engineer.
Fire Safety (Management) (TOP-UP) BSC (HONS) 1 year
If you want to develop your expertise in the field of fire safety management and are aiming for a senior role in the fire industry after graduation, then this top-up degree is ideal. Fire safety management is concerned with minimizing the fire risk to life, property, business continuity and the environment throughout the life of a building. This course emphasizes the development of management skills for fire safety as it relates to the context of the built environment. You will play a role in the management and leadership of teams involved in the provision of safe working environment and in the management of fire safety provision in organizations.
Fire Safety and Risk Management BSC (HONS)
This degree has been developed in response to the reforms in fire safety regulations and recent high profile fire incidents. It emphasizes the consideration of fire risk during the design, construction and occupation of a building, and is ideal if you are aiming for senior roles after graduation in the specialist fire safety companies, fire insurers, fire and rescue services, social housing providers and other complex estates. It will develop your knowledge in integrated design and management solutions aimed at reducing the fire risk and ensuring that if a fire does occur, appropriate active, passive and fire safety management systems are in place to protect people, property and the environment.
Fire Safety Engineering FDSC 2 years
The life of a fire safety engineer is diverse and demanding. This foundation program will prepare you for it, giving you a broad-based, vocationally relevant qualification taught by leading academics and ex-fire professionals. You’ll study fire prevention, development and containment. You’ll get to understand the dynamics of fire, and how to design suppression systems that minimize the human, environmental and financial impact of fire. And alongside specific fire safety knowledge, you’ll develop all-important analytical and critical skills, alongside transferable IT and design abilities, that will stand you in good stead regardless of the career path you choose.
