The Department of Sports and Management offers the following Bachelor Programs:

 

Sport and Exercise Science BSC (HONS)

Sport and Exercise Science emerged as an academic area within a developing body of knowledge that encompasses the parent disciplines of Physiology, Psychology and Biomechanics, along with additional sub-disciplines of Sport Nutrition and Performance Analysis. This program adopts a multi-disciplinary approach with the aim of producing knowledgeable and skillful graduates in the field of Sport and Exercise Science.

 

Sport and Physical Education BA (HONS)

This unique course combines the more practical study of Physical Education and Human Movement with the theoretical element of Physical Education from a Socio-Cultural viewpoint. The degree has been designed to provide the student with an intellectually stimulating and vocationally relevant experience, with the aim of producing knowledgeable and skillful professional graduates in the field of Sport and Physical Education.

 

Sport Business (Management) BSC (HONS) – TOP-UP 1 year

If you’re interested in a career in management, with the emphasis on the sports industry, then you can progress your foundation degree or HND studies to degree level on this BSc Sport Business Management course, and study sport from a strategic perspective in both a national and global context. Within the course there are a number of opportunities for you to gain invaluable work experience while tailoring your program of study to suit your interests and ambitions. In addition, emphasis is placed on developing a range of personal and academic skills with the option for progression to further study.

 

Sport Business Management BSC (HONS)

Prepare yourself for a career in sports business management with this rigorous and intellectually stimulating course from UCLan, which focuses on your development as a critical thinker. You’ll examine sports business management from a range of perspectives, linking theory and practice while drawing on contemporary research and issues in sports business, including sustainability, globalization, corporate social responsibility and corruption. At the same time, you’ll learn the core business management disciplines – including management, finance, strategy, operations and economics – and their application to sport, graduating with the skills, knowledge and experience you need to become an effective leader and manager in the sports sector.

 

Sports Coaching and Performance BSC (HONS)

Our sports coaching and performance program is designed to provide students with the skills, experiences and networks that will establish our graduates at the forefront of coaching practice. The program is rooted in applied practice by linking theory to practice and provides many opportunities for students to apply their skills in real world contexts across professional and amateur sport both in the UK and abroad.

 

Sports Coaching and Development BA (HONS)

Our sports coaching and development program is designed to provide students with the skills, experiences and networks that will establish our graduates at the forefront of sport coaching and development practice. The program is rooted in applied practice by linking theory to practice and provides many opportunities for students to apply their skills in real world contexts across a range of contexts both in the UK and abroad.

 

Sports Journalism BA (HONS)

The only Sports Journalism course in the north of England accredited by the Broadcast Journalism Training Council (the BJTC), recognized by Sky and the BBC as a benchmark of excellence. Being a sports journalist is one of the most exciting jobs around – and for many years, we have been helping people like you move into their dream career. One of only six Sports Journalism courses in the UK accredited by the Broadcast Journalism Training Council (partners with the BBC and Sky), our graduates have gone on to report on some of the world’s biggest sporting events, such as the Champions League, the Olympics and Wimbledon. They have worked for employers such as the BBC, Sky, ESPN, Premiership football clubs, national and regional news organizations and many more across the world.

 

Sports Therapy BSC (HONS)

This is the first Sports Therapy course in the country to offer students financial support towards travel costs they may incur as part of their Sports Therapy placements. Many Sports Therapy placements are based at professional and semi-professional sports clubs, for example Preston North End, Everton FC, and St Helens RFL and this can involve travelling at weekends and evenings. UCLan recognizes the additional burden this places on students and will fund payments over the academic year (subject to meeting agreed criteria) of £120 for year 1 students; £210 for year 2 students and £300 for year 3 students. This is a potential payment of £630 over the course of the program.

 

Strength and Conditioning BSC (HONS)

 

The BSc (Hons) Strength & Conditioning degree at UCLan allows students to gain both theoretical knowledge and practitioner skills and apply them in a real world setting. Students will be given the opportunity to assist with performance testing of professional teams in order to gain invaluable experience of working within high performance sport. Students will be taught by staff who coach at the elite level and who also undertake contemporary research at the highest level in the field of strength & conditioning. The skills and experience gained from these two crucial areas is used to create a relevant, practical and contemporary learning environment. Students will graduate from the course with the knowledge and practical coaching competency to begin an exciting career as a Strength & Conditioning coach.
