About Jönköping University
Jönköping University is a young professional-oriented university characterized by a high degree of internationalization, an entrepreneurial spirit and extensive collaboration with surrounding society. About Program
A Master of Science in Economics is a degree in high demand as global corporations and the public sector need smart people with superior analytical skills to assess large amounts of complex economic data and draw meaningful conclusions. As a specialization within the field of economics, this program develops your ability to analyze many types of complex economic problems that corporations and public-sector agencies need to tackle. This is achieved by combining theoretical knowledge in economics with practical skills in statistics. In addition, the program attracts students and instructors from around the world, creating an international atmosphere and a diversity of perspectives on the issues discussed in class, which is also an experience that can give you a competitive edge in your future career. The autumn semester of the second year offers plenty of options to specialize your degree, either by studying abroad at one of JIBS’ recommended partner schools, or by taking elective courses of your choice at JIBS, which also allows you to do an internship in another country.
Internship
If the student decides to stay at Jönköping International Business School (JIBS), a package of default courses is offered. One of the default courses are Internship in Economics. The internship course is of special interest as JIBS guarantees several students to get an internship in one of the organizations in the local community (the actual number is announced in December each year). The students that get the internship are those that decide to stay at JIBS during the third semester and are those that have high academic performance. The students apply for the internship positions during the end of the first semester, parallel to the going abroad selection. The objective of the internship course in economics is to give the student experience in applying his/her theoretical knowledge in practical work concerning economics, thereby allowing the student to further develop skills in applying the theoretical approaches which have been treated in the various courses of the program. The students that do not get any of the fixed positions are encouraged to also find an internship. If students fail to find an internship they will take the course at the advanced level at JIBS.
