About Instituto Marangoni

Istituto Marangoni is the international fashion school par excellence, with four Schools in the most prestigious venues of international fashion. In Milan, the capital of Made in Italy, in Florence, where fashion, art and tradition meet, in Paris, the home of haute couture, in London, where trends are born and in Shanghai, where fashion is the future, Istituto Marangoni is able to offer different visions of the contemporary fashion system to its students. Istituto Marangoni is a school where the passion for fashion unites cultures, ideas and people from all over the world. Entering Istituto Marangoni means being part of a very special community, where fashion is the common denominator in all its most cosmopolitan aspects. The four sites of Istituto Marangoni are truly one of the most international student contexts in the world, with more than 4,000 students from 106 countries, each with infinite interests, styles, and knowledge. Attending this school is an experience of being immersed in fashion, learning and being enriched through contact with the most varied and interesting cultural realities. The new School of Art brings together, in one prestigious site, all the disciplines taught by Istituto Marangoni. The school is located in a historical building in via de’ Tornabuoni 17, in the core of the city, just a few steps away from Piazza S.Trinità and the museums of Gucci and Ferragamo. In addition to a range of long and short courses in fashion and design, the new Firenze school provides an intense programme of studies dedicated to art and encompassing History of Art, Art ‘Management’ and Visual Multimedia Art. The Florentine school is on the one hand characterised by the support of professors who are both professionals and highly specialized technicians in the ‘art of making’, and on the other by collaboration with an important French institution in the field of art teaching, the renowned Atelier de Sèvres (for Art courses). This completes the school’s innovative and prestigious profile.

About Program

Product managers look to the future. They turn ideas and design concepts into reality, converting creativity into a valid commercial proposal. Product management brings together the work of the design studio, pattern cutting and production departments, ensuring a fashion collection achieves the required style, production standards, price points, delivery dates and points of sale.

This 9 months postgraduate level Fashion Product Management course trains participants in advanced production processes and product management skills, analyzing the marketing strategies and production methods necessary to create a successful fashion collection. Participants learn how to respond to trends and consumer demands, and put together a collection of products that are innovative in style, production methods and process.

The fashion course covers the techniques, organization and economics of the production process of fashion items, learning at how to manage technical problems, responding to technological changes and product innovation, as well as new influences in the industry such as sustainability and 3D printing. By studying the relationship between fashion and technology, innovative applications in production processes are discovered. Participants learn how to interpret style from the design concept and its development, through to the finished garment or product. Extensive knowledge of fabrics and materials, their properties and appropriate uses, combined with that of cut, construction and production time is covered. They understand how raw materials are transformed into the final product following pre-production processes – sampling and sourcing of raw materials etc. through to production including cutting and sewing, and finally onto post-production processes of folding and packing, quality control and shipment etc. By gaining an in-depth knowledge of these processes participants are able to make products that are both profitable and appropriate for the market.
