About Instituto Marangoni
Istituto Marangoni is the international fashion school par excellence, with four Schools in the most prestigious venues of international fashion. In Milan, the capital of Made in Italy, in Florence, where fashion, art and tradition meet, in Paris, the home of haute couture, in London, where trends are born and in Shanghai, where fashion is the future, Istituto Marangoni is able to offer different visions of the contemporary fashion system to its students. Istituto Marangoni is a school where the passion for fashion unites cultures, ideas and people from all over the world. Entering Istituto Marangoni means being part of a very special community, where fashion is the common denominator in all its most cosmopolitan aspects. The four sites of Istituto Marangoni are truly one of the most international student contexts in the world, with more than 4,000 students from 106 countries, each with infinite interests, styles, and knowledge. Attending this school is an experience of being immersed in fashion, learning and being enriched through contact with the most varied and interesting cultural realities. The new School of Art brings together, in one prestigious site, all the disciplines taught by Istituto Marangoni. The school is located in a historical building in via de’ Tornabuoni 17, in the core of the city, just a few steps away from Piazza S.Trinità and the museums of Gucci and Ferragamo. In addition to a range of long and short courses in fashion and design, the new Firenze school provides an intense programme of studies dedicated to art and encompassing History of Art, Art ‘Management’ and Visual Multimedia Art. The Florentine school is on the one hand characterised by the support of professors who are both professionals and highly specialized technicians in the ‘art of making’, and on the other by collaboration with an important French institution in the field of art teaching, the renowned Atelier de Sèvres (for Art courses). This completes the school’s innovative and prestigious profile.
Both natural and artificial light impacts human response and behavior, as well as influencing and manipulating space through strategic lighting design. This three year full time course investigates lighting for contemporary lifestyle and luxury interiors including architectural spaces (residential, commercial, retail, public), and for entertainment, events and art installations. The course covers a complex mix of technical illustration and drawing skills (CAD), combined with the knowledge and understanding required to correctly interpret the ‘light’ atmosphere of a space, and translate this into creative and technical lighting design solutions. Participants understand the principles of lighting, learning how to successfully create a project outline or light installation for an exhibition, fashion show, retail space, or residence. They move onto study more technical aspects of lighting design including LED and fiber optics, color, beam, light shaping, output and distribution, and are encouraged to experiment with contemporary design as well as considering new and innovative approaches in the industry that are evolving today. The study of the relationship between humans, light, and space is an essential element of the whole interior design process, and participants learn the importance of developing a detailed lighting project for different contexts, with particular focus on the fashion and luxury markets, analyzing events where lighting installations may take days to set up, for just a few moments of spectacle.
