About Instituto Marangoni
Istituto Marangoni is the international fashion school par excellence, with four Schools in the most prestigious venues of international fashion. In Milan, the capital of Made in Italy, in Florence, where fashion, art and tradition meet, in Paris, the home of haute couture, in London, where trends are born and in Shanghai, where fashion is the future, Istituto Marangoni is able to offer different visions of the contemporary fashion system to its students. Istituto Marangoni is a school where the passion for fashion unites cultures, ideas and people from all over the world. Entering Istituto Marangoni means being part of a very special community, where fashion is the common denominator in all its most cosmopolitan aspects. The four sites of Istituto Marangoni are truly one of the most international student contexts in the world, with more than 4,000 students from 106 countries, each with infinite interests, styles, and knowledge. Attending this school is an experience of being immersed in fashion, learning and being enriched through contact with the most varied and interesting cultural realities. The new School of Art brings together, in one prestigious site, all the disciplines taught by Istituto Marangoni. The school is located in a historical building in via de’ Tornabuoni 17, in the core of the city, just a few steps away from Piazza S.Trinità and the museums of Gucci and Ferragamo. In addition to a range of long and short courses in fashion and design, the new Firenze school provides an intense programme of studies dedicated to art and encompassing History of Art, Art ‘Management’ and Visual Multimedia Art. The Florentine school is on the one hand characterised by the support of professors who are both professionals and highly specialized technicians in the ‘art of making’, and on the other by collaboration with an important French institution in the field of art teaching, the renowned Atelier de Sèvres (for Art courses). This completes the school’s innovative and prestigious profile.
The menswear industry is growing and designers specialized in this area are in the middle of a creative boom. With leading designers moving into menswear, the tide is now changing and the market for men’s apparel is getting more and more media attention, in addition to increasing brand revenue. This three year full time course forms multi-skilled designers specializing in the active menswear market.
Participants learn how to create innovative collections, and the study and application of research methods for creative and original product development are key throughout. Womenswear is a tried and tested market, and while still bigger and ‘faster’, the relationship between men and women’s brands is crossing barriers, with innovative designers also bridging gaps in both arenas. Menswear is a different fashion animal altogether. Not only considering fit, line and attention to detail, menswear designers need to have the creativity and flair to be able to connect with this distinct target audience in style, trend, and emotion.
The course moves on through all aspects of fashion illustration with particular attention to patternmaking and tailoring skills essential to producing high-quality men’s apparel, as well as an analysis of clothing manufacturing through deconstruction. Participants are encouraged to experiment with new approaches in the industry that are evolving today, including renewable and sustainable resources, innovative materials and new technologies, building individual style and creative and professional abilities. The course also provides a solid base in fashion design and the fashion system, embracing the principles of fashion business including brand identity, positioning and marketing, consumer habits, and trends.
